On your way to ‘The Bay of Plenty Country Estate’ you will see the cityscapes of the port city of Mount Maunganui, to kiwifruit country and the iconic kiwifruit orchards, past Maori settlements and marae ( Maori meeting places), dairy farms, and forests.
You will first visit the dramatic environment of the Hells Gate geothermal park where steam vents, boiling mudpools , are visible. On your guided tour you will walk around the environment being taken past the ‘Inferno’ and ‘Sodom and Gomorrah’ hot bubbling pools, and the Steaming Fumerols. This is a truly unique landscape which characterises the volcanic and geothermal nature of the Bay of Plenty province.
The tour leaves Hells Gate and drives through farming and forestry areas to reach the Bay of Plenty Country Estate.
On arrival at the Bay of Plenty Country Estate you will be driven through the 800 acre property to view the park-like grounds, unique residences, and extraordinarily varied treescapes.
The Country Estate hosts, Ian and Nessie, will welcome you to the Hunting Lodge on the property where you will be invited to enjoy a open-counrtry style bbq banquet lunch, featuring a carvery of beef, venison and wild pork meats, summer salads, breads, and fruits. Matched NZ wines and craft beers will complement the NZ food experience.
The hosts will share the very interesting history of the Estate with it being developed by a German billionaire industrialist, and once being an internationally renown Pheasant Shoot venue, and an equally renown Clay shooting destination.
A clay bird shooting demonstration is included.
After the visit to the Estate, the tour will take a different route back to the ship, and on the way, stopping at a local Village Hall, to taste fresh green and gold kiwifruit, juice and liqueurs, and browse for local gifts and mementos of your visit to the Bay of Plenty.
